Creative Arts Media

Bringing live performance and video together

Creative Arts Media grew from more than fifty years of involvement in theatre, first as a director, then as an actor, and later returning to directing.

As video technology developed, I became increasingly interested in what it could add to live performance and how it could preserve productions that would otherwise disappear when the final curtain came down.

Today, I create filmed sequences for theatre productions and choirs, as well as recording complete performances using a four-camera setup and an ATEM video mixer.

Video for Live Theatre

Film can become part of the production itself. I create sequences designed to work with live performance, from projected backgrounds and atmospheric material to filmed scenes that extend what can be achieved on stage.

Recording Live Performance

Theatre is temporary by nature. Once a production closes, much of what was created disappears with it.

Using a multi-camera setup, I record complete performances and mix the camera feeds to produce a permanent record for theatre groups, performers and audiences.

Other Creative Work

Creative Arts Media has also included filming concerts and choirs, editing promotional material and producing shorter video projects for local organisations.

Interested in working together?

I am always interested in discussing theatre, performance and creative video projects.

Rather than simply watching a performance being recorded, students can become part of the production team. They can operate cameras, frame shots, follow the action and learn how individual camera positions combine to tell the story of a live event.

With guidance throughout, the emphasis is on learning by doing. Students experience the concentration, communication and teamwork needed to record a performance as it happens.

The finished recording then becomes something they helped to create, both in front of the cameras and behind them.

Young People Behind the Cameras

Giving young people the chance to create the production, not simply appear in it.

Creative Arts Media can also work with schools and youth groups to give young people practical experience of multi-camera video production.
